CHERRY VERNON-HARCOURT
Cherry’s current work is inspired by the landscape of East Anglia. She sketches and takes photographs of the area and uses these as a starting point for her work. She tries to reduce her designs to their simplest form, showing just the essence of the land and seascapes of the area she is working in.
Cherry puts colour on to linen or cotton cloth with Procion dyes, acrylic paints or earth pigments. Soya wax, soya milk and discharge paste are also sometimes used. Silk and Thermofax screens, credit cards, chains, brushes, a water pistol and found objects, collected on the beach and inland, are involved in the application of colour on to cloth.
Cherry has exhibited in the UK, Europe, USA and Japan. She has won prizes with her work and has two quilts in the Quilters’ Guild Collection.
