NIKI CHANDLER
Niki is an artist and printmaker working with textiles, primarily dance nets and synthetics; a nod to her professional background as a theatrical costume designer/maker. Much of her artistic output over the past 20 years has focused on the notion of the shadow as a metaphor for the transient nature of time passing and the evanescence of life.
In 2022, Niki imposed strict limitations on her creative practice in order to push the work in a new direction. Her current body of abstract artworks, ‘Breathing in Colour Series’, are focused on material exploration and contemporary ways of working.
Craftsmanship and precision are employed to create constructed textile panels, quilts and fine art prints that are inspired by the traditions of Patchwork and Quilting. The use of grids and simple geometric forms; Square, Circle, Triangle, allow her the freedom to concentrate on colour layering and colour blending.
Her work has been juried into many prestigious exhibitions in the UK and Europe and can be found in the Quilters’ Guild Collection.
Niki regularly exhibits with the PRISM group of international textile artists and shows her art prints annually with The Cambridge Drawing Society.
