MARIAN MURPHY
As an embroiderer Marian varies her material repertoire to suit the pieces she is making. Plaster, wire, wood and paint are frequently employed combined with fabric and stitch. It is the versatility and the sometimes unpredictable changes that take place whilst the different materials come together that she exploits and develops to make her objects.
Ideas that inform her work are often taken from traces of history and the human place within.
Recently she has been looking at phenomena in the natural world and is developing some new themes for her work using fabric manipulation and sublimation printing.
